In this section we publish the most frequently asked questions about composite GRP application and give you the answers to them.

 

 

 How the GRP reinforcement is sold? In bars or in coils?

 

GRP reinforcement is sold both in bars and in coils – it is up to you to decide! Certainly, the reinforcement in coils is more popular by several reasons:

  • When you by the reinforcement in 100 meter coil you can cut the bar of required length. That will spare you from the need of standard length (6 and 12 meters) bars connection;
  • If you purchase the reinforcement in coils (hanks, bobbins) you can reduce the transportation costs, because the long body and high hosting capacity transport will not be needed;
  • By requests from principle customers we are producing the coils of winded bars of any length. As a rule the length is multiple to maximum casted “mesh”.

 

For example if the “mesh” dimensions are 24x48 meters, the optimal length of winded bars in coils will be 48 or 96 meters. From the other side we can produce the GRP bars of any required length (even if it is non-standard). This type of order we call “cut reinforcement”. These types of order are implemented only after making and signing of order specification (identifying the overall nomenclature of lengths and number of bars for every length).

Therefore, the orders connected with non-standard are implemented only after 100% pre-payment. It should be noted that thanks to FRP reinforcement elasticity, it could be transported by 3 meter body cars even if we have 6 m reinforcement bars. In this case the bars are placed in the body in in shoe form. The same principle is used for 12 m bars transportation in 3 m body, but the bars are rotated 2 times. It is preferable to use the car with tough sides, not the insulated van (which sides are infirm), in other case there is a risk of sides damaging by reinforcement (that becomes a spring).

The coils of GRP reinforcement could be transported by cars. The reinforcement of less than 10 mm diameter is winded in coils of 115 cm diameter: internal diameter 100 m, coil thickness 15 cm. The weight of GRP reinforcement is small, you can see these parameters on the page with GRP reinforcement description. But if you decide to transport GRP coils in salon or trunk of your car please take care about laying any material, that will exclude the contact between reinforcement and plastic covers of the car. It could be any material: cardboard or close texture. If you do not observe this rule, the coils could scratch the cover of your car while driving.

There is no need of reinforcement straightening after coil unwind. It happens naturally, because the bar action is similar to spring action. The more the winded bar diameter is the more accurate you should be under its unwinding. Unwinded reinforcement does not have residual strain.

There are some producers spreading in the internet the information, that the winding of FRP reinforcement in coils leads to microcracks formation. If it is the low quality reinforcement and if producer does not know what’ve been produced, identifies temperature regimes and components proportion “by eye”, of course its reinforcement will be exposed to all deformations and microcrakcs will appear. But nothing will happen with high quality reinforcement of normal producer (if you do not bend the reinforcement stronger than minimal allowed bending radius), as also nothing will happen with GRP or FRP fishing rod if you bandit regularly. The minimal diameter of coil dc, mm, shall ensure the ACP conservation under its transportation and is calculated by formula:

dc >= 2dn * Еf / σв

  • where:
  • Еf – tensile elasticity modulus, MPa;
  • σв – tensile strength limit, MPa;
  • dn – nominal diameter of reinforcement, mm.
